A place to come where breastfeeding is celebrated!
LLL meetings are like a chat amongst friends. Sometimes they can be quiet and reflective as we support a mum who's having a difficult time establishing breastfeeding. At other times they can be lively and animated as we discuss ways of standing up to criticism of our parenting choices. At other times they can be lighthearted and loud as we think of ways to find time for partners when we have babies in the house!
The accredited leaders are there to ensure that mothers' questions are answered accurately, using the most up to date research and information available to them through La Leche League's vast bank of resources. They lead a discussion (hence the term 'leader') usually following a format of a 'series' of topics (hence the term 'series meetings'). The topics are loosely arranged under the following headings
In addition, we in Newport have extra coffee morning meetings (on the third Friday of each month) where we can discuss other issues related to breastfeeding, such as the arrival of new siblings, loving guidance, fundraising and so on. Sometimes we just have a good chat and get to know each other at these extra meetings!!
There is always the time to look at the library of books and have a drink and a snack.
Children are welcome-therefore during school holidays meetings are sometimes noisier. Please bring your baby-we love to see them and we will give you support and encouragement even if you're having a hard time getting the breastfeeding relationship working for you. Many times we have given mums a drink as they lie on the floor to feed their baby, or seen mums who need to offer expressed or other milk to their baby.
